Is no upfront cost website design legitimate?

Yes. And I'd rather give you the honest answer than a pitch.

Colour-ink bursting outward from a dissolving wireframe on white — openness, no lock-in.

The skepticism makes sense. "We'll build your whole website before you pay anything" sounds like the setup to something bad. After years of watching small business owners get burned by the web design industry, I built this model specifically to be the thing that sounds too good to be true and isn't. Here's exactly how it works and why.

Why the model is financially sustainable

Most studios take deposits because custom work takes real time, and if a client walks away after the work is done, the studio loses that time. The deposit protects them. It transfers the risk to you before you've seen any results.

We flipped that. We build first, and we only get paid if you decide to keep the site. That means the risk sits entirely with us — which creates the most honest incentive in the industry: if the work is mediocre, you walk away and we don't get paid. If it's excellent, you keep it and we do. We have a direct financial reason to care about quality on every single build.

A deposit model actually removes that pressure. Once you've paid, the studio's incentive shifts to shipping and moving on. Ours doesn't — we have to earn it every time.

What "no upfront cost" actually means

The whole picture, plainly:

We design and build your complete website with no upfront cost — real pages, real copy, real photography, a custom design made for your shop — before you pay anything. About two weeks later, we hand you the finished site and you look at the real thing on your phone and laptop. Take as long as you need.

If you love it, it's $500 one-time, then $100/month for hosting, security, and unlimited changes. No contract, cancel any month, and the site and domain are yours regardless of what you decide.

If you don't love it, you walk away owing nothing. No invoice. No contract to escape. No deposit to fight over.

The scams actually worth worrying about

There are real traps in the web design industry — they just don't look like ours.

The deposit that vanishes. You hand over $2,000–$5,000, get a few enthusiastic emails, and then the designer goes quiet. Half-built site, no replies, no recourse. This happens to more small businesses than anyone admits, and there's almost nothing you can do when it does.

The 24-month lock-in buried in "pay monthly." A lot of web companies advertise a friendly monthly price, then bury a 12- to 24-month commitment in the fine print, with an early-termination fee if you try to leave. Many of them also retain ownership of your site or domain, so cancelling means starting from scratch. The low monthly number is the bait; the contract is the hook.

The change fee trap. You launch, you're happy, then you want to swap a photo or update your hours — and you get a bill. Hourly. Every time. Your own website becomes something you're afraid to touch.

Our model has none of these. No deposit, no contract, no minimum term, no change fees, and everything we build — the site, the code, the domain — is yours from day one. If you want to understand why we built it this way, here's the full story.

Is there a catch at all?

The honest one: we're betting that you'll love what we build. If you don't, we lose time. That's a risk we chose to take, not one we're passing to you.

One thing worth being clear about: this isn't "free website design." The price if you keep it is $500 once and $100/month. We say that early and clearly because the people who are right for this model aren't looking for free — they're looking for a way to see the finished site before they commit. That's a very different thing.

Who this is built for

Small businesses across the US and Canada who want a genuinely professional, custom website without gambling thousands on a result they haven't seen yet. People who've been quoted $6,000 for a template, burned by a deposit, or handed a lock-in contract and told it was standard. People who'd rather see the real thing first.

If that sounds right, here's exactly how the no-upfront-cost process works — start to finish, in plain English. Or book a free call below and I'll show you what your site could look like before you decide a thing.
